Pakistan Railways Introduction::

Pakistan Railways, often known as PR in Urdu, is the country's sole state-owned railway. It was founded in 1861 with its headquarters in Lahore with 7,490 kilometers (4,650 miles) of operational track across Pakistan from Torkham to Karachi. (under British India or Indian Railways). It transports both goods and passengers.

In 2014, the Ministry of Railways unveiled Pakistan Railways Vision 2026, which intends to increase PR's market position in Pakistan's transportation industry from 4% to 20% by using rail upgrades for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The plan asks for the development of new locomotives, the expansion of passenger services, the development and maintenance of existing rail infrastructure, an increase in average train speed, and improved on-time performance. Following the completion of the first phase in 2017, the second phase of the project is planned to be completed by 2021.

One of these is the Rs. 1.11 trillion (US$3.9 billion) ML-1 project, which will be completed in three stages.[4] As of October 2022, no development or tendering on these projects had commenced. An active participant in the International Union of Railways is Pakistan Railways. During the fiscal year 2018-19, Pakistan Railways carried 70 million passengers.
